Visit to Pamora Village:
- Observation:
For the second meeting, two goats, kwen and kwete (a local beer) were prepared by the people in the village with a help of prof. Tahara to be served on the day. On Friday 12th August 2011, we have visited a lady in Pamora village who is in charge of brewing kwete and filmed the process of making kwete.
On Saturday 13th August 2011, the second meeting was held in Pamora Village. Mainly the village elders discussed a proposition for carrying out Agwara Dance which is planned to be performed in February next year to mourn the death of the late Cesario, Oungi Unu. My role was to film and record this meeting, in detail.
A brief outline of what we have filmed on 13/08/2011:
- 1. Opening prayer
After the opening prayer was given by a member of the audience, a young man from pamora village brought two goats and shown them to the elders, respective representatives of the neighbouring villages and the members attending the meeting. Two goats were taken to a small open area near by and tied to a tree trunk where they are to be slaughtered.
- 2. The village elders briefing
Briefing was made by Mr. John Oungi, the apparent clan leader of Pamora clan. We have used a canon camera XA10 to film the briefing and discussion part of the meeting since the camera had better recording equipment. While the briefing is made, goats are slaughtered by a group of young man from pamora village and cut into parts efficiently. We have used a sony handy cam camera to film the slaughtering since this camera has better mobility.
- 3. Responses from respective representatives
Representatives from neighboring villages stood up and each gave a response to what they have thought about holding Agwara Dance and discussed about problems which might occur and what they have to offer. Canon camera XA10 was used to film this discussion and sony handy camera was used to film a group of young man preparing goats meat, grilling and also boiling, for to serve the guests while this discussion is being held.
- 4. Closing
Mr. John Oungi thanked participants of the meeting for their time and gave greetings to all. The meeting ended around 1:30pm and food was served to the participants, guests and all the people in the village. Kwen and grilled goat meat were served first and after a while, boiled goat meat was served again with kwen and Kwete. Some women from the village danced along with the drum beat, which the sound was made by beating an empty plastic container, until the sunset.
On Sunday 14th August 2011, a brief meeting was held in Mr. Raphael Owinja's house within the Village between four members of the village including Mr.John Oungi, the apparent clan leader of Pamora clan, and prof. Noriko Tahara. The main subject of this meeting was to ensure how much preparation has to be done for the Agwara Dance and how to manage it. This was filmed by using canon camera XA10 and a tripod.
Overall comment:
For filming the Agwara Dance in February next year, the battery and the recording problem needs to be solved. There is no electricity in the village so the battery for the camera must be charged beforehand and the separate charger is needed to charge the battery it self, even during the filming, in a village near by where there is a generator. Maybe another external microphone is necessary to record sound clearly with the sony camera as well as the canon camera.
